How to Enable Microphone Permission

To record audio in Hi Translate, enable microphone permission on your device and in your browser first. This guide walks through the settings on Windows, macOS, so you can get everything configured quickly and enjoy smooth recording.

1. Troubleshoot on your device

Windows

If Hi Translate can't record audio on Windows, first make sure your microphone is configured correctly and microphone permission is enabled. The Windows settings screen may vary slightly depending on your operating system and its version. See Microsoft's official documentation for detailed instructions.

1. Open the Start menu and go to Settings → System → Sound → Volume mixer. Under Input devices, make sure the correct microphone is selected and that it is receiving an audio signal.
2. Go to Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone. Make sure the Hi Translate desktop app has microphone permission, and check whether the browser you use is also allowed to access the microphone.
3. Test a new recording in the Hi Translate desktop app or in your web browser to confirm whether audio is detected. If your browser still can't record audio, check the browser microphone settings for further troubleshooting.

Audio still isn't working on Windows?

If your microphone is configured correctly but Hi Translate still can't record audio, the problem may lie in your Windows audio settings or drivers. Follow the recommendations in Microsoft's official troubleshooting guide, starting with the first suggestion, until the issue is resolved.

Mac

Follow the steps below to check your microphone input settings. For the latest steps on managing sound on macOS, see Apple's documentation.

1. Open System Settings.
2. Search for or navigate to Sound.
3. In the Output & Input section, make sure the microphone you want to use is selected.
4. Make sure your input volume isn't set to zero and that your input level shows activity.
5. Next, go to Privacy & Security and select Microphone.

Option 1

1. To the left of the browser address bar, click the site information button.
2. In the panel that opens, find the "Microphone" option.
3. Switch the microphone permission to on (or choose "Allow" from the dropdown menu).
4. Refresh the page for the permission setting to take effect.

1. Open your browser's Settings.
2. Go to Privacy and security → Site settings. Under Permissions, select Microphone.
