Most AI translation tools are built for the same languages: English, Spanish, French, German. The other 6,000+ languages in the world? An afterthought.

We built Hi Translate to change that. And last month, we proved it.

Winning Where It Matters Most

At WMT 2025 --- the Workshop on Machine Translation, hosted by the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) and one of the most prestigious machine translation competitions in the world --- our AI research team (competing as TransssionMT) ranked #1 in four low-resource Indic languages:

  • Assamese (as-en)
  • Manipuri (en-as, kha-en directions)
  • Khasi (kha-en, en-kha)
  • Mizo

The competition attracted 18 top global institutions and universities, including IIIT Hyderabad. We beat them all in these four language pairs.

Why Low-Resource Languages Are Hard

India has over 20 official languages. Most of them are spoken by tens of millions of people daily --- yet mainstream AI systems barely support them.

Languages like Assamese, Manipuri, Khasi, and Mizo are spoken across Northeast India and neighboring regions. They suffer from a fundamental problem: almost no parallel training data exists. Building accurate machine translation for these languages isn't just hard --- most companies don't even try.

We did. And we won.

This Is Not a Side Project

At Hi Translate, low-resource language support is our core mission, not a marketing feature. Our Android app has been used by 500M+ users worldwide, with the strongest organic growth coming from Nigeria, India, Pakistan, and Ghana --- exactly the markets that mainstream translation apps ignore.

Before WMT25, our team had already won championships in:

  • Xhosa--Zulu (African low-resource languages)
  • English--Hindi
  • English--Latin American Spanish

Each win reflects years of linguistic data collection, model research, and a genuine commitment to the billions of people who speak languages that Silicon Valley has written off.

What This Means for Hi Translate Users

Every research breakthrough feeds directly into the product. The same AI that won WMT25 powers the translation engine inside Hi Translate --- available today on Android and now on iOS.

If you speak Assamese, Manipuri, Khasi, Mizo, or any of the 137+ languages we support, Hi Translate gives you translation quality that no other consumer app can match.
